FAQ: Under 18 attendees

Is there a creche?

Important Notice: Regretfully we are unable to offer creche facility at Summer School 2024. With changes in regulations in recent years, it is currently not possible to meet the mandatory requirement to provide this service.

I am under 18, can I attend the School on my own?

No. Under-18's must attend with a Parent/Guardian. The under-18 must stay in the same room/dorm/tent as the Parent/Guardian. This is a requirement by Irish law and applies even if the guardian is going to be a family member such as grandparent, sibling, cousin etc.

See 'School Policies' tab for more details.

I'm under 18 - do I need to go to all of the sessions?

Attending scheduled sessions at Summer School are not mandatory. However, for protection and safety, under-18s must be either in session or under the care of their parent/guardian at all times. There will be a sign in & sign out procedure for sessions scheduled for under-18s.

In the event of an unadvised absence parents/guardians will be notified via mobile text, therefore mobile phones should be kept charged and on at all times.

I am a parent/guardian of an under-18, what do I need to know?

The NSA guidelines states - “The safety and wellbeing of children is of paramount importance, and takes precedence over all other considerations...”. This is the policy of the NSA regarding children, junior youth and youth under 18 at all Bahá’í events. In keeping with this policy every effort will be taken to ensure the safety of children. However, all parents and guardians are expected to cooperate fully in keeping the children safe by observing guidelines for sign-in, sign-out, bedtimes, etc. Parents/guardians bear the ultimate responsibility for the safety of their children/youth.

Parents/Guardians should:

  • Maintain responsibility for their young person at all times
  • Drop off and collect their children on time and/or ensure junior youth and youth attend their scheduled sessions on time
  • Advise programme co-ordinator if the young person is not going to be attending class/session for any reason
  • Bring any issues that they have to the attention of the relevant programme team as soon as possible
  • Ensure that all attendees at the school respect and abide by the bed times
  • Be aware that the school is an open site and that other groups and individuals use the site
  • Ensure that all under-18s in their care obey the code of conduct which is available on the website

Do I need to be on time for sessions/classes/meals?

Every effort is made to ensure all sessions, workshops, activities and classes start and finish on time.

Meals times are strictly adhered to by kitchen staff.
