FAQ: Rota
How do I sign up for the rota?
Rota duties will be assigned and will be emailed to you prior to the start of the school. At the school the rota desk will be open in registration where you can sign up if you have not been allocated duties in advance of the school, or if you have questions or requests about the specific duties. Rota duty reminders will be sent via text messaging at the school.
Do I need to serve on the Rota?
The aim of the Rota is to promote the spirit of service and universal participation. It is expected that everyone who attends the school should have the opportunity to serve, including those not staying at the school accommodation.
It is essential that you turn up on time for duties assigned to you. Certain services may have to be cancelled if people do not turn up on time for rota duties.
What is the Rota?
The Irish Bahá'í Summer School is run with the help of all the participants, in a spirit of service and universal participation. There are many avenues of service available during the school, and some of those are organised via the Rota.
Rota duties include service at meal times in the dining hall, including carrying meals for families with young children or supplying the downstairs dining area for those with limited mobility. Other areas of service include serving tea and coffee at breaks and the Coffee/Tuck shop when it is open.
If I cannot make it to my rota duty, can I send someone else?
You will have time to consider your assigned rota duties when you arrive. If any duty is not suitable, perhaps because of childcare commitments, there will be a rota person on duty at set times, when you can make changes. For unavoidable last minute changes, you may send a person of suitable age instead, but the decision to accept that person is up to the service manager.
